Maximizing Training throughout the Cycle Workshop

  • 399 Grand Avenue Oakland, CA, 94610 United States (map)

Do you wonder if you should push yourself in your workouts and climbing during times of low-energy? This workshop is designed for female-bodied athletes to learn and understand how to maximize performance throughout the menstrual cycle. Participants will receive education on hormone changes, impacts on strength training, metabolism, energy systems, and recovery. By harnessing knowledge about our hormonal systems, we can collectively be empowered to train with more intention.

Outline of the workshop:

Week 1: Centering our bodies and redefining performance. 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

  • The first night will be an educational class, where you will learn about the recent research of hormone changes and how they relate to exercise science. We will discuss how changes throughout the month can affect performance, and how to be smart about what to do when.

  • **New this year! We will cover exercise dosage to explain the concepts of strength training vs other types of training. We’ll end the night with education on, and self assessment of core activation with intra-abdominal pressure principles, so that everyone knows how to safely engage their core during the following weeks of training.

Week 2-5: Training through the cycle exercise classes! 6:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.

  • Each participant can explore how to adjust the type and dosage of exercises depending on which phase of the cycle they are in. Emily will be there to teach the circuit class, help to modify training on the spot, and provide some of her favorite climbing and non - climbing specific workouts. Let’s train together!!

  • This workshop is good if you’re brand new to strength training or if you’re an avid trainer. There’s always more to learn.

When: Tuesday February 24th 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Tuesday March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
